How can I cure depression without psychiatric help and pills?
This is my second time being depressed. The first time it somehow went away after going back to school.
Depression seems to only happen when I spend an extended amount of time with family and then I leave them.
I don't really want to go to my parents about this, so what can I do to cure it?
Your description indicate what is called "Situational Depression" and is a very common form of depression but not the kind that requires professional help. That is, as long as it doesn't last for weeks on end. There is no "cure" only ways to lesson the impact and perhaps the duration. Hang with positive people. Do things you like to do even if you don't feel like it. Get plenty of sleep, and try to stay busy so you don't dwell on it too much. You will be okay.

Sunlight tends to extinguish depression. Saint John's Wort in liquid form is instrumental against depression. It takes 2 and a half weeks to kick in.
Exercise, as opposed to inactivity, tends to push back depression.
Getting involved in solving other people's problems is often helpful in extinguishing depression.

Hey Woofun,
Thanks for sharing this information with us. I've suffered from this situation in the past as well. My suggestion is to simply pray. Jesus is so cool in healing us in these tough situations.
Just when you have a chance tonight, get in a quiet place…no lights, no television…etc and just tell Jesus what's going on. Trust me. he'll listen.
God Bless

I am sorry that you feel you can't go to your parents about this. Feeling alone only makes depression worse. Anyway, you can try exercising for at least thirty minutes at a time - - jogging, working out at a gym….that will get endorphins going, and that may make you feel better. You can also go to a health food store and try either St. John's Wort or Sam-e. Speak to the nutritional consultant there, and s/he should be able to give you some direction. You will need to be very patient if you choose to take herbal remedies for depression -they don't work as quickly as an anti-depressant would. Also be sure that if you are prescribed any medication that the doctor knows what herbal products you are taking (since some herbs interact badly with medication). Good luck.

I'm sorry my friend. Depression isn't something that can just go away because one day you can feel one top of the world and the tiniest event can make your self-esteem plummet.
For example, I am 20 years old and I had this group of friends. These guys treated me like I was somebody. I wasn't this weird outcast like I was in school. Then they suddenly started talking about me behind my back and saying these awful things to me. I lost every single one of them and now I am alone. I don't have any friends. The ones I had treated me like s***. They weren't my friends.
It sounds like to me…you have an issue with being alone, like me. All you have to do is be around people and do things that make you happy. Continue to do those happy things when there's no one around too.
Good luck!
