What are some natural ways of treating depression?
I am noticing signs of depression and I do not want to be put on medications and I can notice it, but just cant change the way I feel. Is there anything out there I could change in my diet or vitimins, just something that could cure the depression with out prescription meds??? Please Help!!
Make sure you're getting good nutrition first but a multi-vitamin can help make up for any shortfalls. A B-complex will help put back B vitamins that stress can cause (like stress from depression). As for depression itself, some find St. John's Wort to be effective, follow what the bottle says and make sure it's a good reputable brand in a standerized form. Some also find relief with a mood-enhancer like Sam-e which can be a bit expensive but might be worth looking into. A friend of mine also said that Trimethylglycine TMG works well for mood enhancement and is more reasonably priced.
I totally respect your need to find natural relief though. I ended up on Effexor XR after a panic attack and found out that such things do NOT do well in my body. I think some folks will tell you simply to go to a doctor but I'm finding that even good docs are just over prescribing these things and folks are ending up dealing with a whole lot more than depression. I did have one doc say that unless you're homicidal or suicidal then try to find other ways to deal with the depression.
My husband finds that the best way for him to deal with depression is acknowledge it, maybe journal about it but don't let it run you over. Sometimes he has days when he's just not very accessible or talkative and we give him space and he rides it out. He doesn't like to take anything for it.

i can tell such a difference in my mood when i'm taking fish oil pills. make sure to get the "no burp" ones, otherwise yucky. you can get the no burp ones at walgreens or grocery store. also, this sounds silly, but i always recommend it: go to the tanning bed. it's like the light therapy, but cheaper. i always feel better- warm and bright lights…always brightens my spirits.

when are you experiencing depression ? If its just a little it could be a dead end no a shitty relationship Take the things out of your life That doesnt contribute to the success and happiness of your life. Smoke a little pot and see how you feel no side effects like all the happy pills on t.v and when you dont want it anymore put it down its that easy not addictive. If you want to use it long term get a prescription and u can put it in food if your not a smoking kind of person. There are tablets as well for patience. i KNOW A few p-eople who have there script for anxiety and depression

The absolute best and safest approach is to start regular exercise. Make up your mind to walk for a while each day. Smell the flowers, take deep breaths…. if you're in shape you might even run a bit, but the important thing is at least 20 minutes each day of moving your body, preferably outside the house in the fresh air. Many studies have found that regular exercise is beneficial to even the clinically depressed and….. it couldn't hurt. If you still find yourself down…… consider seeing a health professional like a Psychiatrist or Phd Clinical Psychologist….. but regular exercise works for most of us and …. it's free!. Avoid scam artists, gurus, scientologiest, psychics, gypsy fortune tellers and vitamin pushers…

Traditionally, melatonin, relora, st johns wort, and Vitamin B-12. However, consider getting professional help–this is nothing to play around with. Also, if you get the natural supplements, get good brands. NutritionalTree.com is a good place to research brands.

Helo! Try using affirmations constantly, retrain your mind with positive uplifting thoughts. Force yourself to smile. Look in the mirror and say I love you until it doesn't feel uncomfortable. If you can change all your negative thoughts to bright happy positive thoughts it will make the healing process much easier. Buy a good affirmation book carry it around like a diary, read it every spare second. If you truly want to change the universe will help!! good luck
